Prathamesh Karmokar’s Gold in Taekwondo Competition

Prathamesh Karmokar, a Class IX student of Powai English High School, won a gold medal in the Ward Level Taekwondo Competition held at Chembur, Mumbai on 5th December. He represented the school in the heavyweight category above 14 years. Prathamesh practices under the guidance of school PT coaches Savi Arote and Krishna Yadav. The school principal, HM, sports coach, and teachers have congratulated Prathamesh for his success.

Prathamesh was fascinated by seeing children playing karate and taekwondo. “My friends were training in taekwondo so I got interested too. 3 years ago my parents gave me consent for training. I have been training for the last 3 years and have been participating in local training level competitions. Based on the guidance given by the sports teachers, I decided to participate in the ward-level taekwondo competition,” said Prathamesh.

A large number of contestants from various schools and institutes participated in the competition. The semi-finals and finals were held at Chembur on Monday among the best-performing contestants. Prathamesh showed his brilliance in the 2 round battle and carved his name on the gold medal.

“Physical training was stopped during the Covid period. Our sports teachers are working hard and supporting the students. Our children are showing their excellence and winning prizes in various competitions. Our school students are participating in many more competitions. Our focus is on holistic development of students along with education,” said principal Shirley Udayakumar.
