A shocking incident has taken place in Hiranandani where a woman employed for the service of senior citizens cleaned hands on gold and diamond jewelery worth 2 lakhs. The crime detection team of Powai police has detained the woman from her house in Parksite. The arrested woman has been identified as Hemadevi Sandeep Kumar Yadav (32 years). The police have recovered the stolen gold and diamond jewelery from her possession.
Complainant Shubda Basure resides in Hiranandani area of Powai. Her senior citizen parents are also living in Glen Height building in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai. Since both of them are senior citizens and stay at home alone, a woman named Hemadevi was appointed a month and a half ago to take care of them and cook food for them. Basure had also installed CCTV in the house of her elderly parents.
In the last week of January, a senior citizen noticed that some money was missing from her wallet and told her daughter about it. When the girl came home and checked her mother’s wallet, it came to light that the gold ring, diamond pendant, and gold-diamond ornaments were stolen, Powai police said.
In this regard, Basure had filed a case of theft at the Powai police station.
“The complainant checked the CCTV footage of the house and found the housemaid’s behavior suspicious,” the investigating officer said.
“Based on the CCTV footage from the house and the information provided by the housemaid while accepting the job, we traced her from her residence at Parksite, Varshanagar. When she was interrogated, she confessed to the crime,” said Detection Officer Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Lad.
He added, “We have recovered a gold chain (10 grams), a gold chain with a diamond pendant (15 grams), and a gold ring (4 grams) from the accused woman.”
“The woman has committed this theft out of greed to get rich quickly,” said Senior Police Inspector Budhan Sawant.
