In the aftermath of a shocking incident in Jalvayu Vihar, where a massive tree toppled onto two rickshaws, injuring their drivers, action is finally underway in the Hiranandani area. Local MLA Dilip Lande has taken up the cause, prompting the Bruhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to address the long-standing safety concerns of residents.
The accident, which occurred on March 11, left one rickshaw driver seriously injured and another with minor injuries. The incident has cast a spotlight on the precarious state of many trees in Hiranandani. Residents have been voicing their concerns about the potential danger posed by weak branches for weeks, if not months. Society has even paid fees to the BMC for tree trimming services that never materialized.
MLA Lande wasted no time in addressing the issue. Upon visiting the site, he listened to the residents’ grievances and took swift action. He ordered the BMC’s ‘S’ ward officials to identify and trim hazardous branches in the area. Furthermore, Lande raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly, highlighting not only the BMC’s negligence but also calling for compensation for the injured rickshaw drivers.
This proactive stance has finally stirred the BMC into action. Starting Monday, crews have been diligently trimming dangerous branches throughout Hiranandani, much to the relief of local residents.
The community’s repeated calls for action have not gone unheard, thanks to MLA Lande’s intervention. While the trimming work is now underway, it serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and the need for municipal bodies to be more responsive to residents’ safety concerns. As the BMC works to prevent future incidents, residents hope this marks a turning point in how such issues are handled in the future.
