On Thursday, March 13, Powai police raided a hotel in Hiranandani, Powai and rescued four budding actresses forced in prostitution. Police also have handcuffed 60-year-old broker Shyamsundar Bansilal Arora (60), who forced the girls into prostitution. All the four rescued girls have been sent to the women’s reformatory in Deonar.
Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Sonawane of Powai Police Station had received reliable information that a gang involved in prostitution was operating in the Powai. After confirming this information, leadership of Sonavane formed team of Crime Detection Officer, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Santosh Kamble, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Suryakant Partkar, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Rahul Patil, PC Babu Yedage, PC Sandip Surwade, WPC Pawar, WPC Sonkamble, WPC Tagde.
When police contacted broker Shyam Arora through a bogus customer, he sent photos of 4 girls on WhatsApp and said that he would take Rs 3 lakh as payment. The bogus customer asked him to come to a hotel in Hiranandani, Powai with girls.
Powai police formed two teams. One team with the bogus customer place trap inside the hotel and the other team led by a senior police inspector Sonavane himself was keeping watch outside the hotel in a manner that would not arouse suspicion.
At around 1.25 pm, a person came to the hotel with 4 young girls and asked the bogus customer to choose the young girls and demanded an amount of Rs 3 lakh.
“The police team had put 6 bundles of money prepared in this way, including one of Rs 500 and 99 fake notes from children’s toys, in a small bag and gave it to the bogus customer. As soon as the bag was handed over to Arora, the customer alerted the police team present in the hotel, which alerted the team outside and the entire team raided and detained Arora and 4 girls,” said Powai police.
They further added, “During the search of Arora, the team found 6 bundles (created by police), a mobile phone and Rs 150 in cash. Meanwhile, 8 expensive Apple mobile phones and a Nokia phone and Rs 5,520 in cash were found from the 4 girls.”
“All the four girls are between the ages of 26 and 35, and are actresses and models working in serials. Arora used to keep 50% of the money himself and give the remaining 50% to the girls. The girls have been released and sent to a women’s reformatory,” said the investigating officer.
Police are searching for Arora’s accomplice Gaurav, who lives in Charkop, after registering a case under Section 143 (2) of the Bhartiy Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, 1956 (ITPA).
