Social media is emerging as a very effective medium in some cases in the past few days. It has also had an impact in the case of civic problems in Chandivali. ‘Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association’ has raised a complaint to the BMC through Twitter about the pile of garbage on the pavement on Chandivali Farm Road and in the surrounding area. Taking cognizance of it, the BMC has cleaned the garbage in the area.
Along with the development of Chandivali, the civic problems here are also increasing. As the people’s representatives turn a blind eye to these problems even after repeatedly pointing them out, Chandivalikar has set up a group to fight these problems. In this background, ‘Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association’ is continuously tweeting about the civic problems in Chandivali area under BMC ‘L’ Ward, drawing the attention of Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Police and Traffic Department.
Association tweeted about various problems like traffic issues, bad roads, increasing garbage in the area, unauthorised parking. Recently, on November 28, they tweeted a video complaining about the huge amount of garbage being dumped on the roadside on Chandivali Farm Road in the IRB to Gundecha Hill area and in the space reserved for municipal park, saying that the road is in dire need of a cleanliness drive.
The Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association’s tweet was retweeted by many Chandivalikars expressing their reaction. Taking the complaint of the citizens seriously, the BMC has started the work of removing the garbage from this area. In his response, ‘L’ Ward (@mybmcWardL) tweeted on December 2, ‘Sir, Your Complaint has been attended by our team, due to ongoing work of road department, new footpath has to be made. Thanks for interacting with us!’
