ARYA KATALE, a student of Powai English High School (PEHS), has won two golds in the All India Open Karate Championship. The tournament was organized by the Armor Martial Arts Gujju Karate Association on September 24th in Gujarat. In the competition, she achieved this success by defeating her opponent using punches, kicks, and throws in the black belt category of Shotokan karate.
More than 1,000 contestants from various states, including Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh participated in the competition.
Arya won two gold medals by defeating competitors from different states. She is studying in Class 10th at Powai English High School.
Since childhood, turned to martial arts for physical fitness, Arya has made a mark in a short span of time with her performance in martial art forms such as Shotokan (Karate). She has been training with her guru, Jayesh Dike, for the last five years.
Arya, who is a black belt (Sportsman with Special Proficiency), has also won many medals in the past in organiser-level, district level and various state level competitions.
Speaking to Planet Powai she told, “Other players also had good alertness, and by observing their game closely, I was able to devise some strategies for victory. I discussed these strategies with the coach to figure out exactly how to play, and all of these things contributed to my success.”
She further added, “Girls should pursue careers in sports such as martial arts and move confidently in society.” Karate is not only a sport; it is also trained for self-defence. She was also mentored by Savi Arote and Pradeep Yadav, the sports teachers of the school.
Speaking on this Shirley Udayakumar, Principal of PEHS said, “We are proud that our students are making a name for themselves at the state level. Our school has always been at the forefront of emphasizing both the talents and education of our students.”
