Sakinaka Traffic Division, along with Rotary Club Chandivali and PDC Organise a Road Safety Awareness Program in Hiranandani

In a spirited effort to champion road safety and foster responsible driving habits, the Sakinaka Traffic Division, Rotary Club Chandivali, and Public Development Camp (PDC) joined forces to host a dynamic road safety awareness program. This vibrant event took place on Saturday, March 22, at the bustling Journalist J Dey Chowk in Hiranandani, Powai.

The initiative was more than just a gathering; it was a mission to enlighten motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians, students, and the general public about the importance of traffic rules and safe road usage.

An impressive turnout included rickshaw drivers, two-wheeler riders, local residents, Hiranandani Group officials, traffic wardens, Hiranandani Commandos, Brookfield representatives, Rotary Club Chandivali members, and traffic department personnel, all actively engaging in the day’s activities.

Senior Police Inspector Samadhan Pawar of the Sakinaka Traffic Department led impactful sessions, providing crucial insights into road safety. Attendees learned about traffic signals, pedestrian safety, road signs, and the necessity of using helmets and seat belts. The sessions also covered safe crossing techniques, responsible driving habits, lane discipline, and the perils of reckless behavior. A special focus was placed on promoting safe public transport methods and understanding emergency helpline numbers.

Adding a touch of creativity, college students dressed as Yamraj, Zebra, and Traffic Police entertained the crowd with lively dances and music, cleverly weaving in messages about traffic rules.

Meena Bhasin from the Rotary Club of Chandivali highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting, “In Maharashtra, Mumbai has witnessed the highest number of road accidents over the past three years, with 1,619 incidents in 2024 alone. This surge is largely due to the neglect of road safety and traffic rules. Since January, we’ve organized awareness programs in schools, offices, and intersections across Sakinaka, Chandivali, and Powai to educate the public.”

Sr. PI Samadhan Pawar echoed the sentiment, emphasizing, “Our team works tirelessly on traffic regulation and planning daily, guiding passengers and drivers. But through initiatives like this, we can reach a wider audience. If people heed these lessons and adhere to the rules, we’ll see our roads become safer and travel more comfortable.”
