On Saturday, Feb 1, 2025, Vasantha Memorial Trust organised a painting competition for school going children today to mark the World Cancer Day. About 120 children from 12 schools of Powai and Ghatkopar from classes 1 to 9 participated in the event held at Powai English High School. The drawings very well reflected their awareness on the ill- effects of tobacco, the importance of good diet and physical exercises for a ‘Cancer Free Tomorrow’.
Experienced Artists Shri Rajaram S Chavan and Shri Paul Dmello were the judges for the event who candidly admitted that it was an indeed a tough task to select the very best among the very thought provoking and artistic talent displayed in their works, even among primary sections students. The winners were given certificates along with prizes.
While the judges were busy evaluating the drawings, a CFT (Cancer Free Tomorrow) presentation was made by Trustee Jayalakshmi Krishnan as part of the Trust’s Cancer Awareness initiative; it was an interactive session well responded by children. On the sidelines of the event, for the parents waiting to pick up their children, our Trust Volunteer gave a talk on cancer awareness, general signs and symptoms of cancer and a specific breast cancer awareness talk for the ladies present.
All participating children were given gifts along with biscuits and juice. The Trust expresses deep gratitude to Powai English High school for providing their premises and helping in organising the event. The Trust also thanks its well-wishers who sponsored the gifts and refreshments for the children.
