The road construction work on Chandivali Farm Road, which has been going on for the last two months from Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to the Pashmina Hill area, is not yet completed. This road has been stuck for the last month only in the construction of the culvert, leaving Chandivalikars in a dilemma as DP Road 9 is the only option to travel to the Hiranandani.
On Wednesday, Mandeep Singh Makkar, a founder of the Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association (CCWA), and members visited the road construction site and spoke with the contractor to complete the work as soon as possible and open at least one side of the road for traffic.
Mumbai already has approximately 1,000 km of concrete roads. An additional 236.58 km are being constructed in the 2022-23 financial year. The BMC has proposed to construct more than 400 km of cement-concrete roads this year and another 423 km of roads next year. It also includes roads in Powai and Chandivali. The ongoing work on Chandivali Farm Road from Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Pashmina Hill is also one of them.
It has been almost two months since work started in this area. During this period, the road leading from Chandivali to Pashmina Hill has been constructed with cement concrete throughout the area, except for some areas in front of the IRB complex. But, from the last month, the work has been stuck in constructing a culvert, and the road is still not open for traffic.
Chandivali Farm Road is an important link connecting Chandivali and Hiranandani via Shivabhaktani. Students go to school, people come to work and residents pass through this street. However, since this road has been closed for the past two months, all of them are suffering a lot.
“According to the notice of the traffic police, there were instructions to close only one side of the road and keep the traffic moving on the other side during the construction work of the road. But, the contractor has blocked the entire road and disrupted the traffic,” said a Chandivali citizen.
In view of the problems faced by the citizens, Mandeep Singh and other members inspected the work of this road on Wednesday, 8 February. They understood the status of the work and demanded that the remaining work on the road leading towards Hiranandani should be completed as soon as possible and that one side road should be opened for traffic movement.
Responding positively the contractor promised to complete the work on one side within the next 10-12 days and open the road for traffic. The work of laying cables and pipelines is currently underway on the second route. He also promised to start the construction work on the other side road soon and complete the work before the deadline.
