Chandivali citizens have already been put in a quandary by the administration by forcing them to travel on encroached and dug-up roads. Now, to add to it, Chandivali has been thrown into complete chaos with the start of the Shiv Bhaktani Road work. Excavation has started in the area from Pashmina Hill to Gundecha Hill, leaving Chandivali and Powai citizens wondering where to go.
Chandivali Farm Road, connecting Hiranandani and Chandivali, is currently the only road link available through Shivbhaktani Road. However, road construction work has been ongoing for the past two and a half months on Chandivali Farm Road from Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Pashmina Hill, resulting in the blocking of traffic on this route. Only motorcycles have access here; all other vehicles must have to travel via DP Road 9 to Rambaug, Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, Jalvayu Vihar, and then to Hiranandani via the NTPC signal.
Chandivali has many large residential complexes, such as Nahar Amrit Shakti, Raheja Vihar, Lake Home, Vicinia, Lokmilan, Tata Symphony, Synchronicity, and Mhada Colony. However, as this area is slowly growing, the availability of roads to this area is decreasing. Apart from Lake Home, residents living in all other colonies and Mumbaikars coming from other areas for work in Chandivali and Powai have only Chandivali Farm Road and DP Road 9 as their travel options.
At the start of the Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Pashmina Hill road work, traffic was diverted from DP Road 9 and Sangharsh Nagar. but, within a few days, the main access road of Sangharsh Nagar was dug up for repair, which put passengers in more difficulty. After that, Chandivali citizens adjusted themselves to using the available facilities. Now, the work of road repair in the Shivbhaktani area has been started by the BMC, adding more trouble to Chandivali citizens.
“It is a good thing that the BMC is building roads, but their planning is very poor. It should be done in such a way that citizens do not face any major problems, but it seems that the ‘L’ ward of the BMC is planning to dig up all the roads of Chandivali, leaving Chandivali in a complete dilemma,” a resident of Chandivali told Avartan Powai.
Mandeep Singh of the Chandivali Citizen Welfare Association (CCWA) said, “We are making every effort to follow up with the BMC regarding the encroachment on the roads and footpaths of Chandivali. There are a few roads connecting Chandivali with Sakinaka and the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). We demand that Chandivali be connected to the JVLR as soon as possible by starting work on the proposed 90-foot road in the development plan. However, the administration is completely ignoring this. The tender for the repair work of DP Road 9 was floated in December, but there has been no progress since then.
“The entire road from Shiv Bhaktani Road to Shivaji Chowk is part of one project. We are working on this entire road in phases. Currently, we are working on only one side road from Pashmina Hill to Gundecha Hill. We have kept the road on the other side open for traffic. Light vehicles will be able to travel through this road,” said the supervisor.
