The Powai police have nabbed a man accused of peddling charas in Mumbai. They seized charas valued at Rs 3.5 crore and a locally-made gun, known as a desi katta, from him.
Police Sub-Inspector Shobhraj Sarak, officer of the Anti-Terrorism Cell at the Powai Police Station and team, was patrolling the area to crack down on drug activity. During their patrolling, they spotted a grey Maruti Alto, (MH 04 LH 2201) parked near the Kabristan at Chandshahwali Dargah.
“Inside was Mohammad Sadiq Hanif Sayyed (46), who is known for drug-related crimes. Upon searching his car, we discovered 6 kg 32 grams of charas, an 18.5 cm barrel, and a desi katta,” told Powai police.
PSI Sarak added, “A further 7 kg 185 grams of charas were seized from Sayyed’s home after a skillful investigation.”
This special operation resulted in the seizure of a total of 13 kg 217 grams of charas, worth around Rs 3 crore 30 lakh 42 thousand 500, along with a desi katta valued at Rs 10,000, a car worth Rs 4 lakh, and Rs 3,500 in cash.
“Sayyed, a repeat offender, has been linked to two previous drug sales and one drug use case”, said Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Sonawane.
Powai police have been registered case against Sayyed under Sections 8 (a) and 20 (b), 2 (a) of the Narcotics Control Act, and Sections 3, 25 of the Indian Arms Act.
The operation was led by Senior Inspector Jitendra Sonawane, with supervision from Police Inspector Praveen Pawar and Assistant Inspector Santosh Kamble. It was executed by Sub-Inspector Shobhraj Sarak and his team, including P.C. Uday Landge, P.C. Subhash Khandagale, P.S. Rakesh Ahir, P.S. Kedar Gaikwad, and P.S. Nivruti Pawar.
The Powai police are now digging deeper into where Sayyed sourced the drugs and weapon. They are also investigating whether he had any accomplices.
