Online fraud crimes have increased largely in the last few years. Day by day many people are falling prey to these cyber thieves and their scams. An unknown person sitting in some corner of the world and is deceiving. Investigating crime and recovering the amount is a big challenge for police. However, the recent significant performance of the Powai Police cyber team is being talked about all over Mumbai and is being showered with good wishes for their work. Powai Police within a few hours recovered the online fraud amount.
A 45-year-old resident of Powai, Shakib Saeed searched the number of a shop called Poly Wine on Google to order wine online. He contacted the showed mobile number in the search and ordered wine. “Person speaking from another side sent him an online payment link and asked to pay on it,” told Powai police.
They further added, “with the help of the sent link fraudster had stolen Saeed’s ICICI Bank credit card information and thereby fraudulently made illegal transactions of Rs 98,915 from the complainant’s account.”
As soon as Saeed realised that he had been cheated online, he filed a cheating complaint at the Powai police station.
During the investigation, Powai police Cyber Cell Officer police, sub-inspector Sudhir Pilane got information about the credit card transactions of the complainant and found that the transactions were made through Flipkart payments. “Based on the information received, Pilane contacted the Flipkart nodal officer and explained the facts of the crime and immediately freeze the amount,” said senior police inspector Budhan Sawant.
Police Inspector (Crime) Ganesh Patil said, “The entire amount withdrawn from the complainant’s credit card has been recovered and returned to his account.”
