In an effort to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community, the Federation of Panch Shristhi Co-op Hsg Societies Limited hosted a “Police-Citizen Connect” program on Sunday, April 6. This initiative aimed to provide residents with a platform to voice their concerns directly to the police, fostering both engagement and awareness.
Assistant Police Inspector (API) Subhash Mane and Police Sub-Inspector (Cyber) Prashant Kendre from Powai Police Station attended, listening intently to the residents’ grievances. They reassured everyone of their commitment to maintaining law and order while also emphasizing the importance of cyber security. PSI Kendre shared insights on protecting oneself from cyber fraud, an increasingly pressing issue in today’s digital age.
Residents face numerous challenges in their daily lives, and not everyone has the means or opportunity to visit an authority office. Recognizing this, the Federation of Panch Shrishti has launched new initiatives to bring administrative support closer to the people. The “Police-Citizen Samvad” program is part of this effort, encouraging open dialogue between authorities and the public.
During the event, several pressing issues were raised by the residents:
- Anti-social Behavior: Some residents reported illegal activities, such as public drinking, loitering, and harassment by groups in the area. There were also reports of vandalism, including broken car windows, and aggressive behavior towards visitors.
- Safety Concerns for Women: The community expressed concern about the harassment and molestation of women and girls, particularly at night. This issue highlighted the need for increased safety measures.
- Street Fights: Residents mentioned frequent altercations between groups, causing disturbances and raising safety concerns.
- Trespassing and Nuisance: There were complaints about individuals forcefully entering an abandoned building, disrupting the peace.
- Noise Pollution: Construction work at the Lake Riviera building continues late into the night, disturbing residents. Despite calls to the police, no action has been taken to address this issue.
- Noise from Loudspeakers: High-decibel loudspeakers from a nearby mosque were reported to exceed noise limits, contributing to the community’s frustrations.
Residents also appealed for a permanent police beat in their area to ensure prompt action against these issues.
In response, police officers committed to increasing patrols, especially around Shivsruthi, Panch Vati, and Shiv Bhagtani Lane. They also shared their contact information, encouraging residents to report issues via WhatsApp for swift intervention.
The police further discussed the possibility of establishing a beat post within the complex. They assured that if the Federation could provide a suitable space, the Powai Police would arrange for deployment, enhancing the community’s sense of security.
As the event drew to a close, PSI Prashant Kendre provided valuable advice on cyber safety. He detailed steps residents can take to protect themselves from cyber crimes, such as digital scams designed to extort money. Leaflets with detailed instructions were distributed, intended for display on society notice boards. These resources aim to empower residents with the knowledge to prevent cyber threats and respond effectively if they occur.
Through this program, the Panch Shrishti Federation has taken a proactive approach to address local issues, emphasizing collaboration between the police and citizens. By fostering open communication and raising awareness, the community hopes to create a safer and more secure environment for all its residents.
