The crime detection team of the Powai police has managed to apprehend the Spider Gang, who entered the house by climbing the gas pipes of the building in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai. The arrest of this gang is likely to expose the burglaries that have occurred in various parts of Mumbai.
The arrested accused have been identified as Adnan Mohammad Hussain Khan (age 20 years), Bhavesh alias Lalu Prabhakar Singh Chauhan (age 28 years), and a 14-year-old minor has also been detained in the crime.
All of them live in Nalasopara and used to roam around in various parts of Mumbai at night and commit thefts.
Complainant an American citizen, has been living with his family in the Adonia building in Hiranandani Gardens for the past 7 months.
On August 5, while the whole family was sleeping, unknown persons broke into the house in the early morning and stole two iPhones, four smartwatches, one Apple iPad, a Beats Pro Ear Bird and music system, gold earrings and a ring weighing five grams. as well as the passport of the complainant’s relative.
“During the investigation of the crime, the CCTV footage of the spot and the surrounding area was examined, and footage of two suspects was obtained,” said Senior Police Inspector Budhan Sawant.
Powai Police Station’s Crime Detection Officer, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Vinod Lad, along P.C. Pachpande, P.S. Dhuri, P.S. Bhoye, P.S. Rathod and W.P.S. Sheetal Lad’s team was assigned with the responsibility of uncovering this crime.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused climbed up to the fifth floor with the help of the gas pipeline of the building, entered the house through the kitchen window, stole it, came back down the same way and escaped,” API Vinod Lad told Avartan Powai.
He added, “Based on the CCTV footage, the accused were spotted heading towards Jogeshwari railway station. Accordingly, a check of the Western Railway station and other CCTV cameras revealed that they got down at Nalasopara.”
Based on the information, a team of Powai police started a search for the accused in the Nalasopara area and set up an informant network in the area. “The accused are criminals on record. We kept a vigil in the area, pretending to be local citizens in view of the possibility of their absconding. Based on technical information and a tip-off, we detained all three of the accused from their residence area,” said the Powai police.
“The accused have confessed to the crime and we have recovered the stolen iPhone, Fossil watch, iPad, Ear Bird and music system worth Rs 2.20 lakh from their possession. All the three accused are on record at Achole Police Station, Palghar.” added API Lad.
In the aforementioned crime, the accused have been produced in court and have been remanded to police custody till August 14. The police have also suspected the possibility of their involvement in some other crime, and accordingly, the Powai police are conducting further investigations.
