10-year-old VEDIKA JAISWAL, a talented table tennis player from Powai, has impressed everyone with her exceptional skills in state and district-level competitions. She has won an impressive collection of 3 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Ranked 15th by the Table Tennis Federation of India in 2023, Vedika is currently a fourth-grade student at Pawar Public School, Chandivali. Her aspirations are to represent Maharashtra and the country in table tennis.
Vedika, who resides in the Powai, has been honing her table tennis skills under the guidance of Coach Eric Fernandes for the past three years, dominating every tournament she enters.
In the recent Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) district-level Table Tennis Tournament held at Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri West, Vedika showcased her immense talent. After defeating numerous competitors, she reached the finals in the girls’ under-10 category. With impressive scores of 11-6, 11-4, and 11-4, Vedika emerged victorious by defeating Heer Bhatt of Arya Vidya Mandir (Juhu) and secured yet another gold medal. This was her second consecutive gold in this event, in addition to her gold at the district-level MSSA competition in 2022.
Furthermore, Vedika took part in state-level table tennis tournaments held in Sangli, Nagpur, and Nanded during September and October, organized by the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association. Competing against participants from 27 districts in Maharashtra, she displayed exceptional prowess and earned 1 silver and 2 bronze medals at the state level.
Vedika’s elder sister, Vaishnavi Jaiswal, who studied at Pawar Public School and represents the Maharashtra table tennis team, acts as her role model.
“Vedika’s journey into table tennis began as she developed a passion for the sport from a young age, greatly inspired by watching her sister,” told her mother.
With the support of her family, her coach, and her school, Vedika has excelled in both academics and sports. She has not only won numerous school competitions but has also participated in international events, proudly securing medals.
Reflecting on her success, Vedika acknowledges the unwavering support and guidance she receives from her parents, her sister, and her school teachers. Their encouragement has been instrumental in her achievements.
