School Students and Community Team Up to Clean Beach and Raise Awareness

On September 3, 2025, the Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) led an inspiring beach clean-up at Juhu Beach, Mumbai. More than 500 kschool students, alongside 18 teachers, 40 college students, and 15 dedicated CMCA volunteers rolled up their sleeves to tackle plastic waste and trash littering the shore.

Equipped with gloves and masks, the group worked hard to collect several tonnes of plastic bottles, wrappers, and other non-biodegradable garbage. But this wasn’t just about cleaning—it sparked important talks about marine pollution, sorting waste, and how everyone can be a responsible citizen.

Schools like Powai English High School, Gopal Sharma Memorial School, S.S. Sahney High School, Guru Nanak English High School, Anandilal Podar School, Chandrabhaga Vidya Mandir, Chembur English High School, Tarabai Modak English School, Rajasthan Mahila Mandal, S.V. Patel Vidyalaya – Kandivali, and KES Law College participated in drive.

Students shared what the day meant to them: one said they felt sad seeing plastic and flowers after Ganpati Visarjan and now understand why eco-friendly celebrations matter. Another was surprised that students could make such a big impact in just a few hours.

Many pledged to spread the word at home, like encouraging the use of clay idols during Ganpati next year or practicing better waste segregation. Though picking up trash was tough, the pride in helping keep Mumbai’s beaches clean shone through.

This event showed what happens when schools, colleges, communities, and local authorities come together for a common cause. CMCA thanks everyone involved and urges all citizens to keep choosing sustainable habits every day to protect our environment.

The clean-up was more than just an event — it was a powerful reminder that even small hands can make a big difference.
