Powai police have booked two people who robbed mobile phones from people in Powai police station limits, under section 392, 34 of IPC. The arrested accused have been identified as Younus Saifan Sheikh (32) and Pradeep Gautam Shirwale (35).
The complainant Riaz Irfan Ahmed (21) had left for his work on October 3 at around 05.45 am. “While he was waiting in front of L&T Gate No. 03, three unidentified men came there on a white-colored Activa motorcycle. “A young man sitting behind forcibly snatched the mobile from Riaz’s hand and the trio run away,” told the police.
While the detection team was patrolling in connection with the said crime, three suspects were found roaming on a white-colored Activa motorcycle at Chandivali Farm Road. “They were chased by our team and two men were taken into custody from Chandivali D Mart. One man escaped on a bike. When the said two persons were brought to the police station and interrogated, it was found that they were involved in various forcible theft of mobile phones in Powai, Sakinaka, and MIDC police station jurisdiction. They have been arrested in the said crime,” API Vinod Patil said.
The police seized a total of 5 mobile phones from the arrested accused, one mobile phone was from Sakinaka police station jurisdiction and 1 phone was from the MIDC police station area.
Arrested accused are criminals on record, Yunus Shaikh has 15 cases and Pradeep has one case against him.
The said crime was investigated under the guidance of Senior police inspector Budhan Sawant, police inspector (crime) Ganesh Patil, detection officer API Vinod Patil, police constable Tilekar, police naik Zende, Jadhav, Surwade, police shipai Rathod.
