The Sakinaka police have arrested a 37-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 31-year-old former colleague and trying to extort money from her. When his extortion attempt failed, he reportedly attacked her.
The victim, who is married and accused both worked together at a private company in Sakinaka for five months before the accused moved to a different job two months ago.
According to the police, the woman reported that on March 7, the accused forced her onto his vehicle and took her to Hotel Lavender in Sakinaka, where he allegedly raped her. He then tried to extort Rs 50,000 from her using GPay. When she provided a wrong PIN on purpose, he became angry and assaulted her, threatening her with serious consequences.
The following day, on March 9, the woman reported the incident to the police.
Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused Sunday morning. He is facing charges under sections for rape, extortion, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation as per the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
An officer from the Sakinaka police station stated that the accused was presented in court on Sunday and is in police custody. The police are verifying the woman’s allegations and plan to record statements of their mutual friends, former colleagues, and other people from their previous workplace to gather more information.
