Two Men Dressed as Policemen Collecting Donations in Chandivali

There is a shocking incident that two people dressed as policemen are collecting donations in the Nahar Amrit Shakti Complex and ​​Chandivali. After the duo demanded money (donations) from many people, especially women, from almost a week, this has become a topic of discussion on whatsapp groups and social media in the area.

According to the information that has come forward in this regard, two men costumed as police officers had been roaming around in the Nahar Amrit Shakti and Chandivali for the past 8 to 10 days. They were seen asking for funds from people in cars parked in this area under the pretext of supporting the work of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“Since both the men were dressed as policemen, citizens thought that the police must be checking. Therefore, many drivers would stop as soon as they came near or front. They had some kind of paper in their hands, the logos on their uniforms also seemed to be of the police, so their work seemed to be official,” told the citizens speaking on this.

How can Mumbai Police roam around the area streets for 7-8 days asking for donations? Being suspicious about this, vigilant citizens approached them and filmed them. When vigilant citizens questioned them both of them could not give a satisfactory answer.

They are not policemen, but they are collecting money from people in the name of donations in the pretext of policemen ‘Chandivali Citizen Welfare Association’ drew the attention of the Mumbai police administration through ‘X’.

During the investigation, it was revealed that both of them are bahurupi, and they are taking donations from people by dressing up as policemen.

One of these individuals has a badge with his name as A B Chavan on his uniform, and the certificate he is showing to the citizens states ‘Rajshree Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Residential Vastigruh’. The person’s name is also mentioned on this certificate as Shri Ajay Bhimrao Chavan.

Who is Bahurupi?

Bahurupi is one of the folk artists of Maharashtra. In the past, when entertainment options were limited in villages and settlements, these artists used to entertain people by impersonating someone exactly. These polymorphs mainly wore the costumes of Faujdar (police), Hanuman, Shankar (gods), Vidushak, Yama and roamed around the village. The people of the village gave them grain, money, etc. During the time of Shivaji Maharaj, these people used to gather secret information. However, now the number of these people seems to be decreasing, and since the new generation is not much aware of this. Bahurupi are often seen showing their art in the city, mainly by roaming around in the costume of policemen, due to which they have to face the anger of the people, considering them as fraudsters.

These people still have settlements in some villages of Dahanu and Palghar talukas. These people who go to various parts of Mumbai and say, Chala Chala sahib lok aalet been pagari aani ful adhikari’ {Come on sir, officer have come without pay and full officers), and after entertaining them, they earn their living in India. However, there have been cases of some scammers and thieves taking advantage of this in the name of bahurupi.
