Members of Hiranandani Gardens Powai Residents Welfare Association (HGPRWA) on Tuesday, December 13 met Joint Commissioner of Traffic police Rajvardhan Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Traffic (East) Raju Bhujbal to discuss traffic issues in Hiranandani Powai. Member of the Association Malbin Victor, Lalit Mehra and Ramesh Iyengar drew the attention of the authorities to various traffic problems in Powai. At this time, both the senior traffic officials promised to start immediate action and will also inspect the area to see what other measures can be taken.
The ongoing work of ‘Metro-6’ on Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) is creating traffic havoc on the entire JVLR. The effect of this traffic jam now has started to be felt in the inner parts of Powai as well. Because of this, citizens have to get stuck in traffic jams for hours even in internal areas too. Apart from this, school buses, private vehicles of students coming to schools, and cars of parents are parked on the road in various parts of Powai, causing traffic problems in the area. The most impact of this is felt in the Hiranandani area.
Along with this, youths in the area are running vehicles at high speed breaking the traffic rules, thus there is a possibility of accidents. Vehicles often enter from the opposite direction since no traffic police on the one-way road. In some schools, colleges, and other localities around the food stalls, youths park their cars and two-wheelers on the road and circle the entire area creating traffic jams. Powaiites is currently struggling with many such traffic problems. Discussing these issues, the members of the association met the Jt CP Traffic and DCP Traffic at their Worli office.
At this time the members raised various traffic problems in Hiranandani and demanded to solve some more traffic problems in Powai. Eden Market Road One-way rule should be strictly enforced. Parking spaces in Eden Market area should be properly demarcated (proper notice boards should be put up). CCTV cameras have been installed in the Eden Market area for traffic discipline, but challans are not being generated. The presence of traffic police is required in Eden Market area. Although towing vans come to Hiranandani Complex, but no action is taken against vehicles violating rules in Eden Market area. Youngsters are speeding around the complex on motorbikes, making unbearable noise. There are 3 schools in the complex and traffic congestion is caused daily due to unruly parking of school buses. They gave a letter about such problems to the traffic authorities and demanded action.
Understanding the problems of the residents of Powai, both officials ordered the officials of the concerned area to take immediate action. DCP Bhujbal had a detailed discussion with the members and learned about other problems in depth. He also assured the members that he will take immediate action and visit the area in a few days to understand the problem and find out what other measures can be taken. He is also eager to work to solve the problems in Powai and Chandivali areas too.
