Diwali – Dussehra is just a few days away and many online shopping sites are offering huge discounts on the purchase of goods. People are enjoying online shopping as these shopping sites provide home delivery facilities along with home shopping. However, the delivery boys who deliver these goods to the buyer’s house are facing a lot of trouble as these goods are being stolen while they are being delivered.
There have been some such incidents that have happened in Powai also. Powai police have investigated it and arrested the trio who committed the theft.
The accused has been identified as Nabi Ahmed Md. Iqbal Shaikh (21), Faisal Ikarar Khan (27), Adnan Karim Khan (20) all the accused are residents of the Filterpada area of Powai.
The complainant Hans Raza Maniyar (38) is working as a delivery boy for various online shopping companies at Ecom Express. On 27th at 1 pm, he went to Brentwood Building in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai to deliver the parcel. This time he kept his bag outside the gate.
After delivering the parcel to the building, he left with a bag containing other items, but he realized that some items in his bag were missing. “Some ladies’ clothes, t-shirts, slippers, smart watches of different companies, and earbuds were missing from the bag,” he said in his statements to the police.
“In connection with the said crime, when we checked the CCTV footage of the building area, it came to light that this crime was committed by 3 persons together. Accordingly, the work of identifying the said three accused started by checking the CCTV footage of the routes of the suspects. We have also activated a network of khabris from localities,” told Investigation Officer Assistant Police Inspector (API) Vinod Patil.
He added, “Based on the technical investigation and the information provided by Khabaris all the three accused were identified in the crime and they were detained from the Filterpada area. Through interrogation, they confessed the crime.”
The police recovered ladies’ clothes, t-shirts, slippers, smart watches, earbuds, and other items stolen in another crime, one iPhone 11, one Realme company phone, ladies jeans, and children’s clothes worth Rs 1,22,547 from the arrested accused. The Activa motorcycle used in the crime (MH 03, DJ 7720) was also recovered from the accused.
The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Budhan Sawant (Senior Police Inspector Powai Police Station) and Police Inspector (Crime) Ganesh Patil by Detection Officer API Vinod Patil, Crime Investigation Team Police Constables Tilekar, Yedge, Police Naik Zende, Jadhav, Police constables Surwade, Rathod.
All three accused have been arrested for the crime registered under section 379, 34 of IPC. The police are looking into whether the said accused still committed any other theft in any area.
