Mumbai’s coastline got a powerful dose of youth power this week! As the city wrapped up its festive season celebrations, enthusiastic students and civic stakeholders rolled up their sleeves on September 21, 2026, for a massive, city-wide Beach Clean-Up Drive.
Organized by the Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) with the robust backing of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Police, the campaign spanned four iconic shorelines: Badhwar Park (Colaba), Girgaon Chowpatty, Versova Beach, and Juhu Beach.
Powai Schools Shine Bright
Adding immense energy to the movement, students and teachers from Powai stepped up in a big way, proving that local action creates global impact. A huge round of applause goes to the participating Powai institutions:
- Hiranandani Foundation School
- Gopal Sharma High School
- Powai English High School
- Green Lawn High School (Filter Pada)
- Guru Nanak High School
Beyond the Cleanup: A Lesson in Eco-Festivals
More than just picking up litter, the drive served as an eye-opening experiential learning session. Amidst piles of plastic waste and discarded festival remnants, students experienced first-hand how irresponsible disposal threatens marine life and human health.
The initiative aimed to spark a vital conversation: How can we celebrate our beloved festivals sustainably? By connecting dots between everyday choices and environmental health, the young eco-warriors learned that civic awareness goes hand-in-hand with active citizenship.
A Community United
At Badhwar Park in Colaba, Corporator Ms. Harshita Narwekar (A Ward, 225) joined hands with students and BMC officers, cheering on the young volunteers. Schools, colleges, local community groups, partners like Parle Products, and law enforcement all locked arms to protect Mumbai’s shores.
CMCA has issued a heartfelt thank-you to all participants and partners, urging every Mumbaikar to carry the momentum forward: adopt sustainable habits, manage waste responsibly, and keep our coastlines sparkling clean all year round!
