A unique protest has been organized by the Chandivali Citizen Welfare Association (CCWA) today, Sunday, September 14 at 6:00 pm to protest the negligence and false promises of the BMC. The residents will record their protest by cutting a ‘JHOOT BOLO’ cake. The protest program will be held at Chandivali Synchronicity Club House.
The CCWA had gone on a hunger strike two years ago to protest the postponement of the 90-foot road connecting Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) to Chandivali Farm Road and to demand its construction at the earliest. In response, the BMC had issued a press release. In which the work of the 90-foot road connecting JVLR to Chandivali Farm Road was promised to start soon.
Despite this public commitment, there has been no progress in this project planned 32 years ago. After Continuous follow-up with the BMC, the authority is not taking any steps in this regard, so the residents have decided to taken a unique step of protest against the inconvenience caused.
To highlight the inaction and breach of promise of the BMC, the CCWA has organized a ‘Jhoot Bolo’ cake cutting protest program. This program is organized as a symbolic protest against the failure of the BMC administration to improve important infrastructure for the residents of Chandivali.
“The citizens had no choice but to protest in a unique way,” said Mandeep Singh Makkar, founder of the association. “We hope that at least now the municipal administration will wake up and fulfill its promise. This project was conceived 32 years ago.”
He added, “On what basis are BMC giving permission for new housing complexes in the area when planned public infrastructure is not being developed? New buildings and thousands of new flats are being built with inadequate access. This is our demand that the municipality should first develop the planned infrastructure.”
