An extraordinary feat of determination and swiftness, the Powai Police have managed to retrieve a significant sum of Rs 5 lakh belonging to a passenger within a remarkably short period and returned it to its owner. Complainant was traveling in auto rickshaw for work in Powai. This effort and dedication of the Powai Police is being appreciated from all levels.
The complainant, Akash Ashok Thorat (29), had left for work at L&T area in Powai from Kajupada, Kurla West on Wednesday at 2 pm. At this time, he was carrying Rs 5 lakh in cash in a bag with him as payment for work, so he hires a rickshaw from Sakinaka.
“The complainant, while traveling by rickshaw from Sakinaka to L&T Powai, forgot the cash of Rs 5 lakh in a plastic bag in an unknown rickshaw in a hurry. The complainant came to the police station and informed about this.” said Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Sonawane.
Since the said amount of cash was large, under the guidance of Sonavane team of Crime Detection Officer, Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Awhad and Crime Detection staff P.C. Surnar, P.C. Chavan, P.S. Warang, P.S. Rathod, P. S. Shirsat were ordered to immediately find the clue of the rickshaw.
When the Crime Detection Team checked hundreds of CCTV cameras in the distance between Sakinaka and Powai, they got the number of the rickshaw in which the complainant was traveling.
“After captivating the number of the rickshaw, we searched for the said rickshaw in Malad, Malvani and Sakinaka areas and found out that the said rickshaw and its driver, Mohammad Hassan Sheikh, were in the Jarimari area,” said Crime Detection Officer Awhad.
When Sheikh was questioned about the amount, he said that he had kept the said amount with him. The said amount has been recovered from him and returned to the complainant by the hands of SR PI of Powai police station Jitendra Sonawane.
Speaking in this regard, the complainant Thorat expressed his happiness over getting his amount back and also appreciated the promptness and skill shown by the Powai police and thanked them.
