Powai’s Former NCP Corporator Chandan Sharma Joins BJP

A major change has been created in Powai politics ahead of the upcoming elections. Chandan Chittaranjan Sharma, a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from the Powai area and a three-time corporator, joined the BJP on December 18th. The party induction ceremony took place grandly at the BJP’s central office in Dadar, in the presence of Mumbai President Amit Satam. Many of his supporters were also present on the occasion.

The legacy of Powai’s development now with the BJP

Chandan Sharma’s entry into the BJP is not just a political change, but is considered a major shift of power in Powai politics. Along with Chandan Sharma, his wife Charu Sharma has also represented the area. The Sharma family has played a historic role in the development of Powai.

Chittaranjan Sharma’s contribution – Chandan Sharma’s father, Chittaranjan Sharma, transformed Powai as a corporator in 1985. He played a crucial role in providing rightful homes to the poor and establishing Marathi, Hindi, and English medium schools for the spread of education.

Historic sacrifice – Chandan Sharma’s grandfather and freedom fighter, Chandrabhan Sharma, donated his land for higher education in the country (for the establishment of IIT Bombay). His generosity was acknowledged by none other than the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

This decision is solely for the benefit of Powai

Speaking on the occasion, Chandan Sharma became emotional. He said, “My family has dedicated their lives to the development of Powai. To carry this legacy forward more effectively, I have joined the BJP. I will faithfully fulfill any responsibility given to me by the party, and I assure you that the chariot of Powai’s development will not stop.”

Sharma’s entry into the BJP has significantly increased the party’s strength in Powai and the surrounding areas, posing a major challenge to the opposition in the upcoming municipal elections.
