New Odd-Even Parking Rule to Tackle Traffic Woes in Hiranandani, Powai

In a major effort to streamline traffic flow and provide much-needed relief to motorists, the Mumbai Traffic Police have implemented a temporary odd-even parking system on some of the busiest stretches of Hiranandani, Powai. Falling under the jurisdiction of the Sakinaka Traffic Division, this new regulation is designed to curb the chronic congestion that has long plagued the area.

According to the official directive issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Eastern Suburbs, the restrictions focus on two primary sections: the stretch from Powai Plaza bus stop to Olympia Junction, and the route from D-Mart Circle to the Eden Garden entry gate on Central Avenue Road. The order officially commenced on February 13 and is scheduled to remain in effect until May 14, 2026.

The decision follows a surge in complaints from residents and commuters regarding chaotic roadside parking. These bottlenecks have not only caused daily delays for private motorists but have also dangerously obstructed the movement of emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines. Given the high density of banks, high-end commercial offices, and luxury residential complexes in Hiranandani Gardens, the area experiences massive footfall, making peak-hour navigation nearly impossible.

Under the new “side-shifting” arrangement, parking will be restricted based on the calendar date:

  • Even-numbered dates: Vehicles must be parked only on the left side of the road.
  • Odd-numbered dates: Parking is permitted only on the right side of the road.

Furthermore, the order strictly prohibits the parking of all heavy vehicles along these designated stretches to ensure maximum road width is available for moving traffic. Officials have described this move as a balanced, temporary solution that respects the parking needs of visitors while prioritizing public mobility. Following this trial period ending in May, the traffic police will review the impact on congestion and public feedback before deciding whether to make the system permanent.
