Powai’s bustling tech hub is getting a major traffic makeover. In a bid to rescue Powai from its notorious bumper-to-bumper gridlock, the Traffic Police have rolled out a strategic shake-up: a temporary odd-even parking system till August 11.
The primary battleground? Technology Street in Hiranandani, Powai.
The vibrant, chaotic stretch from the Olympia Building to the Gopal Chandrabhan Sharma Circle has long been a nightmare of double-parked cars. Packed with vehicles belonging to local residents, office commuters, shopkeepers and schools, the road had become so choked that even ambulances and fire engines were getting trapped in the melee.
To clear the bottlenecks and keep emergency lanes open, authorities are cutting the parking availability in half with a simple calendar trick:
- Even-Numbered Dates: Parking is strictly limited to the left side of the street.
- Odd-Numbered Dates: Drivers must switch over to the right side.
Take Note: Heavy vehicles are officially banned from parking on this stretch entirely.
While the new rules might cause a few drivers to double-check their calendars before stepping out of the car, officials insist it is a necessary medicine to keep Powai moving.
So, if you are heading to Hiranandani, keep one eye on the date and the other on the curb-otherwise, you might just find a traffic ticket waiting for you.
